What is the history of the Bermuda Railway?
The British investors established the Bermuda Railway Company in 1924. However, the railway started operations by the end of 1931, following the completion of infrastructure. Anyhow, during World War II, the Bermudian economic condition almost collapsed, and many of the railway workers were called to serve in the army. Therefore, in 1946, the Bermudian government stepped in to purchase the company for £116,000. However, the Bermuda Railway Company was totally shut down by the government in 1948 after two years, and the remaining machinery and other assets were sold to the British government in Guyana for £86,000.

The hikers should be aware that the portion of the Bermuda Railway Trail which leads to Palmetto Park through Hamilton Town from the Rural Hill section has completely vanished, there is no sign of any track passing through it.
